Josie’s High School Graduation

Well, this is it. The end of the road for the Atlas Classical Academy. We graduated our last student this weekend. We are so proud of Josie and all that she has accomplished. Now she looks forward to starting at Mizzou in the fall, and hanging out with her brother for a couple of years. Good luck, Josie! We know...

Art Class

Josie’s latest piece is from a photo that she took while we were in Florida. I look at this beautiful painting sitting on the table in our basement where we literally spent hours studying art and learning some of the techniques that she is still using today, and I also remember how often my art classes ended with her in...

Prom 2026

Josie attended her senior prom tonight, put on by SHARE, one of the homeschool organizations that we belong to. They do a really good job, and the kids always have a good time. Dixie and I chaperoned. Our little girl is all grown up.

Senior Homecoming

Our beautiful daughter is a senior this year, and she continued the annual tradition of attending the homeschool homecoming dance. Dixie and I volunteered this time to chaperone because they were looking for extra help. Josie had fun and we did too – the kids were pretty well-behaved and the music was good. We’re gonna miss this.

Land of Lincoln

Earlier this summer, I told the kids I wanted to take a history field trip to Springfield, IL, to see the Lincoln museum. They were open to the idea, so I scheduled it and bought tickets. Josie ended up catching some bug that was going around, so she stayed home. Noah and I enjoyed seeing some of the sights, including...

Solo Prom

Without her big brother to accompany her, Josie did prom this year with a group of her friends (not really that different from previous years). Our little girl is all grown up.

Noah’s High School Graduation

We celebrated Noah’s graduation tonight with dinner at Maggiano’s and a cake from Cheesecake Factory. We are very proud of that young man and all he has accomplished. We’re excited for him to head off to Mizzou in a couple of months.

Homecoming 2023

I was happy to see that the kids enjoyed last year’s homecoming enough to repeat the experience this year. They had more of their friends attend this year, so they really had fun. I guess next year we’ll be going to Mizzou’s homecoming. I’m looking forward to that.

Pottery Class

As part of art this year, I signed us all up for a six-week pottery class at Lamplight Studio in Overland. We had a good time learning to throw pots on the wheel as well as hand-building some other creations. The kids had fun and now we have a bunch of candy dishes that need to be filled up with...

Homecoming

Although they both said no when Dixie first asked them if they wanted to go, I managed to talk them into it, and in the end they were both glad they went. Dixie and I volunteered to chaperone, and spent the whole night sitting in the hallway watching the endless procession of girls headed to the bathroom, but it was...

Hannibal

The kids are reading Mark Twain right now, so it seemed like a good time to visit Hannibal. We booked a BnB and made an overnight trip of it. We saw his boyhood home, took a riverboat cruise, toured Rockcliffe Mansion, and walked through Mark Twain Cave. It was a good trip.

Missouri Bicentennial

This week is the 200th anniversary of Missouri becoming a state and part of the celebration was held in St. Charles – Missouri’s first capitol. I took the kids to see the festivities. There were booths arranged in chronological order representing many different parts of our history and heritage. There was a fife and drum corps. There were games and...

Branson 2019

There are a lot of reason why I love that we homeschool. Here’s another. I gave the kids a project this year – to plan our fall vacation. I drew a circle on the map around St. Louis that represented how far we could drive in 4-5 hours. I told them we could go anywhere inside that circle (which included...

Virginia 2018

We spent two weeks, and drove over 750 miles across Virginia, for a home-school history field-trip. Photos are now up in my album. I sure had fun.  I hope we made some memories that will last in the kids’ minds.

This Is Why We Homeschool

Sometimes you just have to go out and play in the rain. I am very grateful that the kids have had so many opportunities to do this. To learn that going out in the rain and getting wet is okay, and it’s not something to be avoided at all costs. It is if you’re a teacher, and for good reason...
