The Nest Is Empty

Josie begins her college career in the same place her brother did – Wolpers Hall. We got her all moved in today, and classes start on Monday. She is excited about her classes this semester and making new friends. Our timing was good and we were able to meet Josie’s roommate Naledi, and her parents, who are from South Africa. Dixie immediately shared her phone number with them so they would have someone to call in an emergency, because she couldn’t imagine having an 18-hour flight between her and her daughter. They were very appreciative.

We took Josie to Flat Branch for dinner before we got on the road home. Dixie actually handled it all very well. I expected her to be a sobbing mess at some point during the day, but she stayed strong the whole time. I was proud of her. This transition is not going to be easy for her.
