Holiday Concert

The SLSO is temporarily performing out of the Stifel Theater downtown while Powell Hall is being renovated, but we maintained our annual tradition to see their Christmas Concert. This year included a couple of notable pieces – Charleston Christmas (Stephenson) and Tom Lehrer’s Hannukah in Santa Monica!

Abby’s Wedding

My goddaughter Abby Zyk got married at the St. Louis Basilica. It was a beautiful ceremony and a great reception at Twisted Tree. We are grateful for being a part of their special day and we wish her and Joe all the happiness in the world.

Jesus Christ Superstar

The musical Jesus Christ Superstar is currently touring to celebrate its 50th anniversary and it made a stop at the Fox, so I took the kids to see it. They really liked it, and now I’m hearing the songs coming out of Alexa.

Run Noah, Run!

Noah ran his first half-marathon today after several weeks of training. He finished in two hours, twenty-two minutes. He was pretty wiped out at the end – tired and hungry. But we’re proud of him for challenging himself and finishing!

Christmas Concert 2022

We missed a couple of years due to COVID, but we headed down to Powell Hall today to see and hear the SLSO and get into the Christmas spirit. They were pretty heavy on the jazz this year, which is okay, but sometimes I just want to hear the traditional arrangements. Still a great show and they played for almost...

Hannibal

The kids are reading Mark Twain right now, so it seemed like a good time to visit Hannibal. We booked a BnB and made an overnight trip of it. We saw his boyhood home, took a riverboat cruise, toured Rockcliffe Mansion, and walked through Mark Twain Cave. It was a good trip.

Balloon Glow

The kids had never been to the Balloon Glow before, so last night we packed a picnic dinner and hung out in Forest Park all evening. Afterwards, we stayed for the Golden Knights and the fireworks show.

Charity Gala

In my role as grantmaker for the Employee Community Fund at Boeing, I was hoping to get more invitations like this one. But after 3 years on the board, this is the first opportunity that has come along, so we took advantage of it. The charity, United Services for Children, provided a table for ECF at their Fly Me To...

Cardinals vs Yankees

I sure wouldn’t have predicted a 3-game sweep of the Yankees, but that’s exactly what the Cardinals delivered this weekend and we got to see the last and most exciting game of them all. I’m glad the kids will have memories of such a notable game. The Cards won 12-9 and we got to see Yadi make his 1000th career...

Spirit of St. Louis Airshow

I took the family to the St. Louis Airshow this weekend. This was a good year to go because the Blue Angels were performing and in addition to all of the other aircraft they had on static display, the C-17 was there. It was hot and crowded, but not unbearable, and the kids enjoyed seeing all of the planes flying....

A Day Downtown

I took today off work to extend the already long weekend, and I took the kids on a staycation trip downtown. We made a quick stop at the Scott Joplin House and then headed down to the Arch grounds. On our way from the parking garage, we also stopped at the marker where Fort San Carlos is thought to have...

Back to the Art

It’s been over two years since we made a trip to the St. Louis Art Museum, so I thought it was time we rectified that situation. We saw an impressive exhibit called Painting on Stone which documented the practice of 16th century painters creating works on slabs of various kinds of stone that had been burnished to a very smooth...

Good To Gogh

For Christmas, Grandma Linda gave us tickets to see the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit here in St. Louis. It was a really cool way to experience his artwork and learn a bit about his troubled life.

Andrea Bocelli Live

This was Andrea Bocelli’s first visit to St. Louis and it was a great show. He had the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on stage playing his music. The first half was a lot of opera songs that I recognized but probably couldn’t tell you what they were from. The second half started with the St. Louis Symphony Choir performing the...

Missouri Bicentennial

This week is the 200th anniversary of Missouri becoming a state and part of the celebration was held in St. Charles – Missouri’s first capitol. I took the kids to see the festivities. There were booths arranged in chronological order representing many different parts of our history and heritage. There was a fife and drum corps. There were games and...

Christmas Concert

The St. Louis Symphony’s annual Christmas Concert never fails to get me in the Christmas spirit. The choices of songs are always so festive and this year they had the entire audience sing along with a medley of carols. At last year’s concert, I saw several people wearing the LED light necklaces, so I had to order some for us...
