First Day Of Summer

Today’s the first day of summer, and it felt like it too. Hotter’n Hades. I spent the day (and most of yesterday) doing yardwork — what was I thinking? This was a fairly productive weekend, but I didn’t get everything done that I wanted (as usual). I can’t believe the year is almost half over. The weeks and months just...

Early Father’s Day

We celebrated Father’s Day a week early this year, and spent the day with the grandparents. Dixie got me the yard cart that I’ve had my eye on for a while, and the kids benefited from this purchase as they got a mini-hayride (minus the hay) around the yard before having fun in our mini water park. It’s not Oceans...

Kansas City

We just got back from our family vacation to Kansas City. It was a crazy busy week. We stayed at the Embassy Suites hotel on the Plaza. We hit a number of the sights, including Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. We also visited the Steamboat Arabia museum, which I found fascinating. A couple...

Internet Children

A couple of months ago, I posted this photo of Noah. We took an old laptop (and I mean *old* — the screen is hanging on by one hinge, and it won’t close anymore) and installed the latest edubuntu load on it. For those not familiar with it, edubuntu is an educational version of the ubuntu Linux operating system. It...

Branson

So I was probably ten years old the last time I was in Branson, Missouri. Everyone that I’ve talked to has told me that I wouldn’t recognize it, that it had become like Las Vegas. I guess maybe my expectations were too high because I can’t say that I was overly impressed. I can see the comparisons to Las Vegas,...

Cambridge Swingset

We bought this Cambridge model swingset from Sam’s last season on clearance and finally got around to assembling the beast this past weekend. If you buy one, you can plan on it taking a good 20 hours to assemble if you have only two people. I would recommend that you follow the instructions and take the time to sort and...

Awwww

When Josie was only a week or so old, I never would have guessed that we would have gotten a picture like this. Noah just wasn’t into the whole big brother role, and his actions toward her were what you could only call agressive. But he has mellowed quite a bit, and now he even seems to like her, and...

A Good Time Was Had By All

We hosted a little shindig today for the whole family so everyone could meet the newborn babies — our daughter Josie and my cousin Laura’s daughter Becca. We had a sprinkler set up, Stomp Rockets, and of course Noah’s Hummer is always a hit. I think everyone had a good time. A few pictures from the festivities are in my...

Father’s Day

I spent today catching up. Catching up on work around the house. Catching up on writing. But most importantly, catching up on some serious play time with my little man. He is a bundle of energy, and always ready to play catch or play cars, but today it was Stomp Rockets. Simply put, it was a good day.

The Greatest Show on Earth

We took Noah and Josie to the circus today. Noah got the biggest kick out of it, he was so charged up during the show. He kept clapping and bouncing up and down in his seat. Josie, of course, slept through it. The circus has really gone high-tech. The lighting and sound was really excellent, and the special effects (pyrotechnics...

Snow Day

For the first time in my almost twelve years at Boeing, we were given the day off due to the snowstorm that pummeled St. Louis yesterday evening. By comparison to the snowfall I remember as a kid, this storm wasn’t that bad. But it’s the most snow I’ve seen at one time in recent memory. Noah helped me shovel a...

Noah’s First Trip to the Zoo

I took today off work and took Noah to the St. Louis Zoo for the first time. A good time was had by all. I think the giraffes were his favorite, but he liked the elephants too. He didn’t really know what to think about the peacock we saw. We rode the train and had some Dippin’ Dots ice cream...

My Kind of Town, Chicago Is

To celebrate our fourth anniversary, I took Dixie to Chicago since she had never been before. It was also our first vacation with our little boy. We weren’t sure how he would travel, but he surprised us both and did really well. We all had a great time. Photos from the trip are available in my album.

A Unique Mother’s Day Gift

Since this was Dixie’s first official Mother’s Day, I wanted to find a special gift to commemorate it, and you won’t find many gifts more unique than a pirolette from TurnYourHead.com. You send them a profile photo of a person, in our case it was our precious little Noah, and they create a special jig for their lathe and literally...

Where Does The Time Go?

It’s hard to believe that our little man is going to be 5 months old this week — the time just flies by. As a parent, you are torn. On the one hand, you can’t wait to see them grow, learn, and experience new things, but on the other hand you hate to see the time come when you can...

It’s A Boy!!

Despite having scheduled ourselves to have labor induced at noon that day, Dixie went into labor at about 2am Saturday morning. Seventeen hours later, at 6:45pm, our beloved son Noah Michael was born — he is 9 lbs, 7 ozs, and 22 inches long! Mother and baby are doing absolutely great! Pictures are now available in my album.
