One Last Ride

We had to put our beloved golden doodle Ellie down today. After 15 years, and countless memories, she had reached a point where her health was having a negative impact on her quality of life. I awoke at 4:30 to the sound of her claws scrabbling the hardwood floor in the dining room, and got up to find her splayed on floor, unable to get to her feet. I have no way of knowing how long she was stuck like that, but it was an indignity we were not prepared to subject her to again.

So we called the vet’s office when they opened and learned that they had time available this afternoon. She enjoyed a rare ride in the car with her window down, followed by a couple of her favorite snacks, and then she fell asleep while we both petted her.

Goodbye, Ellie. You were, without doubt, one of the best dogs ever, and we will miss you.
