Jury Duty

In January, I received a summons from St. Louis County to appear for jury duty in Clayton. The letter itself is not surprising – the surprising part is I’ve lived in the county almost my entire life and this is the first time I’ve been selected for jury duty. I showed up around 8:15am and waited around in the assembly room until being selected in the third round (about 10:30). We sat through almost two hours of voire dire questioning, then went to lunch for an hour. We were called back into the courtroom at about 1:45, and out of the 36 of us, 12 were selected, and the rest of us were sent home, including me.
So it was a lot of “hurry up and wait” – reminded me of the Marines. The most important thing I learned for next time (if there is one) is to bring a book with me, so I have something to read.
