Expensive Week
We had our oven go out last Friday and managed to get a repairman scheduled for Monday (before Thanksgiving) to come look at it. He tested the temperature sensor and concluded that it was our control board that needed replacing. A quick search revealed that they don’t make that part anymore, so it cost me $109 to find out that I need to buy a new oven.
We didn’t waste any time and headed over to Appliance Wholesalers (where we bought our fridge this time last year) and found a dual-fuel (although they don’t call them that anymore) model that Dixie liked. We saved about $1,000 buying from the scratch-n-dent place, but it was still $2,000. Luckily, they had a time slot open for delivery on Tuesday.
They arrived around 4pm on Tuesday and then we discovered that even though the standard width for an oven is 30″, our countertop had been custom-fit around the previous oven and the opening was about 1/4″ too small. Gary and I spent a couple of hours grinding and sanding the soapstone until it finally fit.
