Summer Harvest

Needless to say, I have fallen behind in my blogging habits here. My last post was from our Virginia vacation in 2018. I want to say that I will go back and fill in some significant events since then, but I can’t promise anything.

A lot has happened – it’s been too crazy – but starting in early June 2019, my world was turned upside down and time was completely consumed by my parents’ situation. We moved my mom into a nursing home in El Dorado Springs. About two months later, I moved my dad down to his parents’ house, so he and Marlene could share it. We spent every weekend in Sep 2019 going to the house in O’Fallon and pulling out anything we thought was valuable. In Oct 2019, Marlene passed away and left my dad, once again, alone. In Dec 2019, we sold the O’Fallon house and finally got my mom approved for Medicaid.

Just when I thought things were going to settle down, 2020 came in like a drunken bull and turned the entire world upside down. Every day is crazier than the one before it. My only source of solace has been the time I’ve spent at home with my little family. And it is days like this that make everything seem just a little bit normal again.

The kids brought in this haul from our garden and I couldn’t be more proud of them.
