Marlene’s Funeral

Strangely enough, Jane was the person who told me that my aunt Marlene had passed away. She just happened to call my dad the day it happened, and she sent me a message on Facebook letting me know. So Dixie and I drove down to El Dorado for the funeral. We rented a trailer and hauled my dad’s Mercury down there too, and then let Orley take the trailer so he could haul the Chevelle back to Omaha. All of that worked out fine, much to my surprise.

The memorial service was nice, and there were a lot of people there to pay their respects. Many from the Jehovah’s Witnesses hall, but many locals also who just knew Marlene and my grandma over the years.

I took this picture of my dad in the dining hall of Community Springs after the service, just before we headed back to St. Louis. He looks good in this photo (for a change) although I’m not used to seeing him with facial hair. I’m worried now that he is alone in the house again. I hope he is able to take care of himself, but at least he can continue to rely on meals from the dining hall.
